Abstract

Food Security & Nutrition

Great men and women thrive in challenging their own ideas, improving on them and have a desire to read and discover those ideas that make the world a better place to live in.

Israel, countries in Asia-Pacific and the Caribbean have made strides in saving their people from malnutrition. What about Africa? Literature is replete with technological information including Climate Smart Agriculture which has been documented to be the true blue print for alleviating hunger and malnutrition especially in the dry lands.

Nations in Africa especially sub-Saharan Africa have been associated with myriads of chronic food security and Nutrition issues. Why this phenomenon? Why has poverty continued to dehumanize the African populace? Doesn’t Africa, give birth to sons and daughters who can rescue Africa from this vice?

Perhaps, we need to borrow a leaf from Rotary International which lays a lot of emphasis on ‘Service above Self ’ from the likes of Nelson Mandela from South Africa and Mahatma Gandhi of India. Driven by the best interest of their people, they worked relentlessly and delivered their nationals out of colonial bondage without any strings attached whatsoever.

Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for the citizens of Africa especially of sub-Sahara Africa to be ambassadors of goodwill by embracing the concept of ‘Service above Self ’ and to actualize selfless contribution towards promotion of intelligence, productive sustainable ideas and opportunities.

It is for this reason that IJPP wishes to congratulate and thank all the contributors to this edition Vol. 7 no. 1 (2019) in volunteering a compendium so thought provoking. The treatise is directional and good enough for intellectual engagement.

Thank you.
